Since 1985 the Sacramento area has been home to the Kings basketball organization, and 40 years later the people are ready to fight back. This past weekend, a reported 11 million Americans protested in the streets across the country in what has been called the “No Kings” protest. This protest is surely due to the fact that the Sacramento Kings have consistently been one of the most forgotten about sports teams in history. Despite putting a cool ass beam on top of their arena, the team immediately fell back into obscurity, and the people have had enough.
“In 1776 this country made it very clear that there would be NO KINGS in this land,” one of the protestors in Boston said on Saturday. “And We the People are SICK and TIRED of having to be reminded that the Kings are a basketball team in California’s capital. I mean we barely remember that Sacramento exists as it is, and on top of that they expect us to recognize their .375 win% team? This is unacceptable!”
The Kings have not won a playoff series since 2003-04, and have only made it to one conference finals appearance since moving to Sacramento. The Kings are looking to get past the first-round next year with the help of known playoff performers DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine.
The No Kings protestors are reportedly ok with the Los Angeles Kings continuing operations since they seem to like winning.
