After being traded by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Orlando Magic in a blockbuster trade recently, reality has brought the centerpiece of the trade back down to Earth. Desmond Bane, who the Magic thought was worth a couple NBA players and 4 unprotected first round picks, was initially excited about the prospect of playing in Orlando, Florida. The city is known as the theme park capital of the world, and Disney is even a big sponsor for the team. However, even due to being a prize pick for the organization, Disney has made it clear to Bane and his camp that they cannot receive free Lightning Lane passes for any of their parks.
“I mean it’s incredibly disappointing to be honest with you,” Bane said to reporters on Monday after the news was broken to him. “I just don’t see myself as a waiting in line type of person. We’ll keep working on it and see if we can reach a compromise, but right now the feeling is just disappointment.”
The Magic have a longstanding team policy of “nothing given, everything earned,” and was clear with Bane about this from the get-go. The Disney company could not be reached for comment but did point out in their terms of service that special requests from rich people are accepted at the discretion of how much of a PR disaster it would be to say no.
Paolo Banchero reacted to Bane’s post on Instagram with an emoji that had dollar signs for eyeballs.
