The National Hockey League tried to add a new room to the Draft to let players engage with their new teams’ front office. This was instantly hated by hockey fans online and soon after the draft had concluded the league took down the Draft House, seemingly to never be used again. Instead, the league announced on Sunday that next year’s draft room will have a giant video board that will show incoming player’s old tweets and other online messages.
“We are really trying to humble the new guys that come in to the league by making them uncomfortable,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement today. “The Draft House was a good start but not well received. So we think this pivot to showcasing social media posts from the past will keep fans engaged and keep players in their place. And as an added bonus we can skip ahead of several future news stories by just airing out this laundry on day 1.”
Hundreds of future NHL players now have felt the need to scrub their entire post history to limit the amount of brand damage they would endure. One future first rounder had to delete several comments about how dumb Gary Bettman looks in order to avoid the embarrassment in 2026. However, there are reports that Bettman has already took screenshots of the posts in question.
